Beautiful, unsettling and moving, the work of the three photojournalists shortlisted for the Amnesty International Media Awards 2008 focuses on Congo, China and Haiti. Polaroid Retrospective

Association of Photographers Members Group Exhibition

Polaroid instant film was once the security blanket for professional photographers for many years until the digital revolution came along. To mark the end of an era the AOP Gallery is hosting a retrospective exhibition, show- casing an array of Polaroids shot by AOP members, the leading professional photographers working in the fields of fashion, advertising, editorial and fine art. The show will highlight some of the great techniques that photographers invented when using Polaroid film transfers, emulsion floating, instant negatives - that are unique to the Polaroid products.

British Journal of Photography's International Photographic Award 2008

This annual award is now in its fourth year. There are two prizes - one for a single image, and the other for a body of work. War And Photography - Three Exhibitions

This is War! Robert Capa at Work

Seven years after the West's 'War on Terror' began in Afghanistan, the Barbican Art Gallery reflects on conflict and its representation, in a series of interrelated exhibitions. Robert Capa (1913-1954) is widely regarded as one of the 20th century's most influential photographers. Over 600 of his works are featured in the exhibition which showcases six of his most important war stories.

Gerda Taro

Gerda Taro (1910-1937) The first UK retrospective of Gerda Taro, the ground breaking German-Jewish photographer who was the first woman to photograph war. Her brief but dramatic career was spent at the front line of the Spanish Civil War alongside her lover Robert Capa. She died in action aged 27.

On the Subject of War

Geert van Kesteren, Omer Fast, Paul Chan and An-My Lê.

Four contemporary artists, photographers and film makers present responses to the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq: Geert van Kesteren, Omer Fast, Paul Chan and An-My Lê.

In 1947 India was divided into three section. Sir Cyril Radcliffe was the man responsible for drawing the hurried lines splitting India, West Pakistan and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). In collaboration with Hayward Touring and Magnum Photos, Shoreditch based Autograph ABP commissioned eight projects by members of Magnum Photos to take an indepth look at the prevalence of slavery and injustice in the 21st century. From Anchorage, Alaska, Geo D Oliver is a self-taught photographer currently based in Krakow, Poland. He realised the beauty in taking photographs when all he wanted to do was keep a memory of his travelling youth hostel friends. He followed an English girl into an hostel in Hollywood, California, only to find himself diving into a world full of endless international friendships. So he abandoned his Hollywood dreams to follow the backpacker spirit and to understand certain questions about himself, that he didn't fully understand.

Exhibition inspird by the image of a banner showing men from the Salvatons Army's Hadleigh Colony (now Hadleigh Farm) working in the gardens of Easton Lodge in 1902. The show includes photographs of the men at Hadleigh at the turn of the 20th century where people from inner cities received training in order to start new lives in Canada and Australia with the ability to grow their own food. The modern version of this century-old vision is revealed in Liz Ellis's photos of today's trainees and the produce they grow - the fruits of their labour.

Milk is the rare product of two photographers with contrasting approaches. Maxine adopts an encyclopaedic approach while Emer works conceptually. Maxine photographs milk floats in the urban landscape and Emer records Bovine specimens in a controlled environment. This juxtapostion makes the exhibition a must see.

Homeless Gallery

A spontaneous photography happening/exhibition that explores one of photography's greatest attributes, that it is accessible to all. In this democratic event everyone from Jerwood prize winners to amateurs will have a chance to hang their work together in a non-curated manner. Viewers can experience the process of hanging, being in the environment with the photographers and mingling in a creative crowd for the duration of the event.

These situational portraits of shops around Hackney provide us with a fascinating record of the diverse proprietors, their premises and their wares. The photographs were inspired by the museum's collection of model shops and demonstrate the diversity of the local population.

A pioneering photographic journalist, Andrew Pitcairn-Knowles (1871-1956) captured the leisure activities of people in northern Europe during the Edwardian period, from kite flying to sail bikes and rabbit racing. The exhibition displays twelve prints made from works in the Pitcairn-Knowles archive held by the Victoria & Albert Museum.

Phil Clarke-Hill photographs Lustrabotas, the hundreds of shoe shine boys who work and live on the streets of La Paz, Bolivia. The boys sell a national street newspaper Colectivo, wearing a mask to protect their dignity. The exhibition will be accompanied by events addressing the role of street newspapers in empowering the homeless and unemployed.

Shahryar Nashat creates films and installations that revolve around the power struggle inherent in the relationship between individual and traditional institutional powers. Ryan Trecartin's films, by contrast, propose extrovert and exuberant characters, performed by a close community of friends who inhabit an unfettered world. Marked by physical and linguistic excess, the films are immersed in internet-based culture.

Photographer Tom Hunter discusses his work and current projects. Known for his images of urban life and ordinary people, often considered social 'outsiders', Hunter's influences range from Thomas Hardy and old master paintings to the Hackney Gazette. Remarkable for being the first photographer to have an exhibition at the National Gallery, London (2005) Hunter's work has been widely exhibited in Europe and North America. His current exhibition 'Are You Being Served' can be seen at the V & A Museum of Childhood. He is also Senior Research Fellow and Associate Lecturer at the London College of Communications.
